Hi all, sorry don't post on here a lot but thought I'd appeal to the masses here.

On one of my WhatsApp chats I've been getting multiple notifications of the security code changing. There have been five today alone in the space of a few hours, three yesterday and one on Friday.

Obviously the person isn't deleting and reinstalling WhatsApp that rapidly.

The only thing that's changed in this person's life is that they are currently out of the UK (EU) and have been since Thursday 4th Jan.

Is this potentially a sign of someone trying to access their account or someone registering it on multiple other devices?

Interestingly, these notifications only appear on the phone app, not on my laptop app even though I do have security notifications enabled.

This is what WhatsApp has to say on the matter

WhatsApp said:
At times, the security codes used in end-to-end encrypted chats between you and one other person might change. This is likely because you or your contact reinstalled WhatsApp, changed phones, or added or removed a paired device. You can always verify that a contact's security code is legitimate. Learn how in this article on end-to-end encryption.

Oh yeah, I know all that. It's just the fact that these notifications are so numerous. This person hasn't reinstalled WA or changed their number nine times since Friday and certainly not five times in as many hours. It just strikes me as rather weird, tbh.

Are they changing to a local sim card at times throughout the day?
