Google Maps - Mapping out a Road Trip

Firstly, apologies if this is covered in other threads. I've tried google and rapidly got sidetracked into irrelevant topics.
I'm trying to map out my pending holiday / roadtrip on google maps. I think I've grasped the basic concepts. I've added all of the stopovers on the base map as Pins. That was pretty straightforward. Then I've added another layer with the driving directions. You only appear to be able to add 10 stopovers into one layer, so I've created 2.
What I want to be able to do is show is, on each driving leg, how far it is and what the estimated driving time is. I presume to do this I'd need one layer per leg, which shouldn't be an issue - but even then I can't figure out how to do this.
Is it possible, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
