Looking for a screen to be used solely for console gaming - Xbox One and PS5. Split use between myself (Forza/Gran Turismo/Final Fantasy kinda stuff) and my son (all Fortnite)

Bewildering array out there! Will be looking second hand (say £300 max), no bigger than 30”. We’re currently using an old flat screen tv so looking to upgrade.

Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for?

If it is going to have static graphics for any long period of time (i.e. the 'head-up display' info things), plasma or OLED are at risk of burn-in.

If you have the newer consoles, they can do 4K resolution at 60 or 120hz IIRC? so you might want to look for that spec. (I think that needs HDMI 2.1 connectors.)

HiSense seem well-rated on places like AVForum in terms of good value for money with decent image quality etc.:

Thanks Paul, those links do look like good value. Wondering if worth looking for 120hz - need to do some googling to see whether the games we’re playing support the higher frame rate as seems 60fps will look better on 60hz?

It is worth comparing your usual choice of games' specs to the kit you are buying!

IIRC PS5 will do 4K 120Hz on Fortnite, for example, but running at 60Hz lets it use better graphics settings - so you can choose your priorities in terms of 'looks' vs performance. 60fps should not look 'worse' on a 120Hz screen, though (AIUI...) as it will likely just display a particular frame twice before it refreshes.

Also worth considering that future games might push the hardware more, so potentially need higher framerates etc.
