This happened about a year ago but I just got reminded as I wanted to edit an old html file.

So I had 2 Win7 computers running a really old prog called Namo Web Editor.
One computer I upgraded to Win10 and Namo still runs fine.
The other computer I did a fresh install of Win10 and cannot install Namo. Well it installs, but asks for the registration every time you start it.
Why does one work and not the other?

As I said it's not important but I just wondered why.

Back when you originally installed the program on Win7 you must have registered it. Then when upgrading to Win10 that registration key is still stored on your hard disk, so it remained activated.

By wiping the disk and installing Windows from scratch, that registration key has gone so it's now asking to be registered again.

Probably worth taking an image for future use via a virtual machine if it’s likely to be important.

Ah. OK thanks for the replies. It's not a critical program but I did pay and register smile

In Ye Olden Days programs like Belarc Advisor would scan your HDD & report serial & registration numbers:
