I dont have Photoshop, and dont do very much with Images so MS Paint has been suficient for my purposes. But it seems to have been dumbed down over the past 20 years. I remember features such as negatives (flips the colours into a negative image) greyscale, putting text boxes on an angle etc. Are these features hidden in a secret menu somewhere in Windows 10, and is it further reduced or even removed altogether in Windows 11?

Anyreommendations for similar software? The limited number of Customer Reviews for the Photoshop digital download on Amazon are not very encouraging.

Gimp is free and 99% as good as Photoshop.

I have tried numerous software packages for image editing and for basic stuff I can't help but revert to Picasa.

Yes, it's discontinued by Google, but you can still download it:

https://picasa.en.softonic.com/

If that doesn't cut it for you, then take a look at the Movavi range.

Very easy to use and all have a free trial, the "basic" photo editor is here:

https://www.movavi.com/photo-editor/?asrc=main_men...

If you do want to get something with all the capabilities of Photoshop, but don't want the Adobe Subscription model then Affinity Photo is seriously powerful:

https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/

Free trial available ... it regularly goes on Sale so wait for a discount before buying if you like it.

There is a free version of ACDSee, not an editor though:

GIMP is incredible, even more so considering it is free, it is a viable alternative to Photoshop.
Everyone says it has a steep learning curve, which is true, but so does Photoshop if you're starting from scratch.
If you don't need that level of complexity then RawTherapee and Darktable are worth a look.
