Hi All

A friend of mine has an Android phone, Xiomi i think, and a NAS drive. Included with his NAS drive was software so whenever his phone is on the wifi network, and on charge for at least an hour it backs up a given selection of phone folders to the NAS automatically. I.e., not the whole phones hard drive.

I have a Samsung S22 Ultra, a Windows 10 PC running effectively as the house's media server, with automatic backups already established onto removable external drives. This PC is hardwired to the router, and the TV's are hardwired to it.

I want similar functionality, whenever the phone is on charge, and on the Wi-Fi network, a selection of folders are automatically backed up to the Windows 10 PC. Basically similar to a lot of the 'cloud' backup service, but I want it on my local network.

I don't seem to be able to find the right combination of app's to do this, the same one my friend has will only function on a NAS, i don't want to have to buy a NAS when the PC is doing a similar job.

Any solutions or recommendations?

Thanks in advance

I use FolderSync in sftp mode to back up to a linux box in a similar setup. It supports standard ftp and smb transfers as well so it should be easy enough to get it working with windows one way or another.

Thanks all, over the Xmas break i've been trying to make this work but i just can't figure it out. Doesn't seem to be a easy way to link to a windows computer using the foldersync app and its all well over my head.

Have a look at SMBSync. I use it for a similar requirement, does a daily backup, very reliable.

I had this with an app I wanted to install. I downloaded it from ApkMirror and it installed OK once I allowed "install from unknown sources" (or whatever the option is called now).

Download Smbsync2 from the Developer's Git. https://github.com/Sentaroh/SMBSync2/releases and give it a try.

Thanks very much for that, SMBSync2 now appears to be working for what i want it to do.

BTW i didn't have to do anything special with App permissions when i downloaded it and installed it direct from the developers link.
I have now done a bit of learning, enabled SMB1 in the Windows 10 PC, and added the share on the destination drive.
A bit of learning with SMBSync and it all appears to be working when the phone is on charge and on wifi, scheduled at midnight every night.

Knowing what i know now, I imagine i could have got FolderSync to work too now in SMB mode if i looked into it a bit more.

Cheers Everyone
