recently made redundant from 12yrs with the same company.

the last time i needed a work phone i elected to buy my own as the free iphone was super budget, they were always very relaxed with personal use and hence i only had the one phone.

since leaving they have ported the number over to me and asked that i delete all work related docs and apps. only when i delete the apps they're pushed back out and auto-installed.

i have queried this and told that i would need to factory reset the phone and set it back up using a fresh apple account not linked to the old work email address.

is this really the solution? can i not just change the email address on the account and then somehow change the management settings?

any ideas? bit beyond my level if tech ability tbh but i don't like the thought of losing my icloud backup.

Sounds like it’s liked to their MDM solution

Look in your settings for a configuration profile

Having bought & sold several iPhones over the years, this is my understanding of the correct (only?) way to do it.

If you backed it up to the cloud under the work email address/account, I'm fairly sure that it is irrevocably linked to that for security reasons.

If they've done it properly even after a factory reset it will enrol back in their MDM as it'll probably be linked from Apple DEP directly to it.
