Hi guys

Just in the process of getting rid of the MINI 12 to upgrade to a 15 and was wanting to know if their is any other storage options as opposed to a flip case....ive seen the apple tag on wallet but not sure if its big enough?

Any ideas

thanks

Is there a particular reason why you need the physical cards with the phone?

Why not just register them with Apple Wallet and use ApplePay?

MagSafe adapter for the iPhone fits cards but I’d just use Apple Pay.

I’ve always just used Apple Pay and stocard for any store cards that don’t work with Apple Pay. However to pay at pump at Tesco you need a card and the QR code scanners can be hit and miss for the Clubcard so I picked up a MagSafe wallet from mymemory very cheap (genuine Apple article) and that keeps a card, Clubcard and licence. I was sceptical it would keep coming off the phone but it’s rock solid.

I was under the impression that after a certain amount of touch payments the bank asks the card owner to insert in machine.??

No. Apple Wallet (Apple Pay) is only limited by the card's limit.

I rarely (if ever) carry cash or cards any more, just my phone. I have two cards on there, a debit and a charge (never use the debit). You can also nominate a card on your phone as an Oyster/travel card too.

I now use my phone to pay for everything (and I mean everything)- - and all over Europe too. Never once had a problem.

One of the benefits of Covid is that it drove acceptance of contactless payment, previously it was patchy, particularly for small purchases... now you can use it for a £3 coffee or a £10k watch.

I thought there was a £100 limit (sometimes)?

No thats incorrect. Apple Pay because of the biometric data is unlimited with no limits.

If there is all I know is I haven't reached it.

I could tell you the PIN number on one of my physical cards as I set it but not the other one and I've had that a few months now and it's never been out my wallet other than to read the number for online transactions from places that don't take Apple Pay.

Same with limits far as I know there isn't one like there is with contactless (unless your bank sets some arbitrary one but that's them rather than Apple Pay itself).

There's a limit on a physical card being tapped - not on Apple Pay (using your card within Apple Wallet).

Is this page wrong then, or am I misunderstanding? I thought I'd hit this problem but it sounds like maybe it was confusion over the physical card vs Apple pay.

Seems dependent on retailer.

https://www.hsbc.co.uk/ways-to-bank/mobile/apple-p...

I've done a couple of online Apple Pay transactions recently where each was around £300 with no problem or additional verification needed.

The key word on that article is “may”.

I’ve been using Apple Pay worldwide since its launch and have never had to enter a pin.

That's odd - I wonder if it's referring to something other than iPhones using Apple Pay?

I've used my iPhone for purchases over £10k and in restaurants regularly all over Europe with amounts significantly over €50. Hotel bills etc etc. Never any issue and no pin code needed.

@the OP - stick a card on there and try it. Pretty easy.

Im now asking the same question .... im in France and there is a physical amount not allowed on contactless of 50 euros....ive never tried it on the phone ie double click the right button to activate wallet.

I understand that with the card after a certain amount or transactions or amount the card must be inserted and the code entered to avoid fraud.

But if I can use the phone and leave my cards at home brilliant.

Will be fine. Give it a go with your wallet just to keep your mind at ease if you like.

I’ve never really understood the appeal of phone cases that hold cards.

Surely it’s just increasing your risk of being mugged, walking down the street on the phone not paying attention to what’s going on around you with credit cards flapping about for all to see as well as the fancy phone?

Contactless used to be a min £5 purchase so I wonder if stores have increased their prices for low priced items to compensate for any fees they incur for using the contactless terminal.

Another thing that has happened alongside this is the payment terminals now annoyingly prompt you to make a charity donation.
