Can't be bothered with the "free" services, that aren't really free as I need to scroll passed 8 inches of video ads to reach the article which makes the entire page un-readable. Can't be bothered with left/right slants on things. Really can't be bothered with click-bait headlines.

Any subscriptions for apps out their for some quality concise news? Something to replace the cesspit that is twitter. Have 5 minutes spare waiting on the bus, quick browse, keep informed with what's going on in the world without wanting to throw my phone under the bus. That type of thing.

FT might tick most boxes, but looking at something for a few quid a month as opposed to 50 quid a month.

(PS please keep your opinions on woke news, right wing news, guardian, daily mail, sky, bbc etc to yourself as not particularly interested smile

I'd agree, but someone will be along in a minute to moan about them being lefty, or in bed with the Tories.

Most impartial are the agencies - Reuters or AP.

I subscribe to the Guardian, Libération, sud-Ouest and l’Équipe for sports, they meet my definition of quality news. Others on this site would call them MSM, which is right wing nutters’ code for quality concise news

Join your local library and download PressReader and you can borrow any number of UK and foreign newspapers and magazines free of charge! There are a couple of gaps most notably The Times but it’s hard to argue with £0/month…

As the screenshot shows there’s plenty of variety…

You can also download Libby and Borrowbox for ebooks and audiobooks

A balance of news across multiple platforms is the answer. BBC, Reuters, AP, Al Jazeera. Even the likes of Fox gives an insight into what other people are consuming and believing.

There's no such thing as unbiased news.

I find reuters tend to talk about just what happened, rather than what you should think about it.

I use BBC for my news

However I find it quite slow. I put this down to them making sure the news is confirmed from multiple sources before they publish it, rather than getting it out first without actually checking if it's accurate (looking at you Sky!)

Agreed. This is what I suggested to Mrs FTR when she asked a similar question.

Might be a little prosaic, but they don't tend to analyse events and draw conclusions.
