Always fancied one of these, but there's hundreds to choose from. scratchchin

Don't mind spending £30 but £15 would be better. smile

Rechargeable or battery?

Black diamond seem to win all the hiking reviews I think they have cheaper ones on your budget. I got a recharble one from decathlon which I’m happy with for now.

Petzl rechargeable of some sort. Many rate nitecore nowadays too. Didn't find black diamond to be brilliant.

I use one of these:

https://alpkit.com/products/qark-usb-rechargeable-...

Cheap 5 quid head torches are all well and good, but I've found they let you down when you need them the most... Was going to go for a Petzl, but I played around with the Alpkit one in one of their shops and really liked it.

Word of caution: you can get head torches with a sensor which allows you to swipe in the air to turn them on and off. My missus has one. I really enjoy walking next to her and waving my had in the air to turn the thing off. hehe

Winds her right up.

So don't get one if you know anyone childish like me.

I have one of these...

Bought mine off Amazon for around £12 and it is very good, I use it at work and even on dim setting the LED strip is bright!

I've got a couple of Olight head torches - a Perun 2 and a Perun 2 mini. Recommended: https://www.olightstore.uk/head-torch

Bought one of these when i had some plumbing to do under my floor. Its so useful it lives on my desk. Wish I had bought one earlier. I now have another in the garage for working on cars.

I have one of those light strip ones too and they're great. It has a motion sensing option, is rechargeable, and can be switched from a white to red light, which is good for not attracting bugs when working on something outside in the dark. Was about 8 quid on ebay, so I have a few for fishing and jobs around the house and car.

I wouldn't go with a lithium rechargeable pack in cold-weather. If you can swap the pack for AA/AAA batteries then ideal. I know it's possible on some petzl.

Thanks for all the replies......appreciated.

Quick question.

If I had not used a rechargeable one for say six months and I needed it at very short notice, it would be flat, would it not?

I am only going to use it for a bit of DIY, not camping or running etc.

Just tried my rechargeable, as I haven't used it in 6 months, and it works fine. Is still very bright actually.

The one I linked in my last post which I have holds charge for months, I think the longest so far from memory is just over 3 months

So I've been told, but the three or four I've had all packed up after not much use. The batteries didn't seem to connect properly somehow.

Since then I've stuck to cheap Chinese ones, that are just as bright and don't seem to break, but are cheap to replace if they do.
