Sorry for the dumb question but Google is not helping me here.
I'd like to buy a secondhand backup mouse for the one I'm currently using with my 2013 iMac. It's the older type with two removeable AA batteries. I've put a picture of the back of it up here.

My question is, does anybody know what the reference number of this mouse is because I can't see one anywhere?
I think I'm right in saying that I can't use one of the newer sealed-up (A1657?) mice because my iMac doesn't have USB-C or Lightning sockets on it so I wouldn't be able to charge it.
Thanks for any help.

You could charge the newer version from a normal usb c charger. It doesn’t have to be charged via your iMac.

You have to be aware though, that the new USB mouse cannot be used whilst it is charging.

I've used Apple stuff since the first Macintoshes of the mid-1980s. The descent of the company from 'special' to 'moneygrabbers like all the rest' grinds my gears somewhat.

I think whoever designed that was very special.

Totally agree. I think I might still have an SE lying around somewhere but god knows where. Some owners seem to be asking bonkers money for them, not sure if they're selling at those prices though.

People always make dumb comments about the charging position on the Magic Mouse. 3 minutes of being plugged in will give you 3-4 hours of use.

So twice a day, every day, you have to look at your mouse lying on it's back & twiddle your thumbs? I change the batteries in my Logitech roughly every six months. It may not be pretty but it doesn't need a cuddle twice a day.

Mine doesn't last that long but I prefer that to the idea of twice a day. How long do you get from an overnight charge?

Very apt username for someone giving advice about computer mice.

Hmmm... Were you being deliberately disingenuous?

3mins will give you a significant amount of charge to continue (go make a cuppa). Then don't forget to put it on charge overnight.

No, that'd be increadibly stupid. You do it once every few weeks, overnight, when it says the battery is low. If you forget, a few mins will get you half a day's work done before it'll need chargining again.

My MagicMouse gets a lot of use for WFH/A, from 7-5 / M-F and I probably charge it overnight 4 times a year (maybe even only 3, its certainly not frequently at all).
