Just wondered if anyone else is concerned about Chinese apps. I was watching this video about Temu and basically the app was doing things it really didn't need to in your phone. Combined with the fact the Chinese companies have to always allow the government full access to data, it starts to feel like maybe there are ulterior motives.

Like temu is losing 30 usd on every sale. It does concern me enough i got rid of my Chinese phone. Just wondered what others think.

I bought a Oneplus 5 phone years ago and they were caught red handed covertly data harvesting, put me off Chinese products all together, as for downloading a Chinese app, not in a million years.

There's a good reason why most Chinese devices are banned from most government / defence / security sites.

Their apps are just as bad, if not worse. With Meta, you know they're harvesting your data for advertising / marketing purposes. With Chinese products, you are less likely to know what data is being harvested, and what it's being used for.

There is no way I'll use Chinese devices or Apps (even TikTok is on my 'no' list of apps)

Errrr. No. This isn't conspiracy. There's good reason why Western Governments are removing any and all Huawei infrastructure from our comms networks. There are similar reasons why the products of many Chinese-owned companies are best avoided if you want any degree of data privacy.

Whenever an app is 'free', ask yourself what the product really is. Facebook is a great example, it makes lots and lots of profit, but it's free to the user; in this case the product is data about the user being sold to advertising and marketing organisations (effectively, you are the product). Same principle applies with a lot of chinese apps and tech - except the end user of the data is likely to be different. But hey, don't let me stop you - if you want to use Chinese based apps, go right ahead.

If a country was gearing up to war, millions of devices in enemy countries, app, cars, electronic devices, used to pinpoint attacks, surveillance isn't really a massive leap, it there is an underlying strategy from flooding the western world with massively subsided products.

The problem is I think people just have too much faith in big companies looking after their needs and data.

People saying they are worried about privacy who then post stuff on social media, using their mobiles phones etc. There isn't such a thing as privacy anymore.
