Android 14 on an older Samsung (Note 10+)?
Discussion
Has anyone put Android 14 on an older Samsung (Note 10+)?
Securiy policies at work insist BYOD phones are on the latest version of Android.... Samsung insist I need a newer phone to achieve this.
This is a shame, as my Note 10+ is still way more than fully functional and in good shape. (So much for sustainability etc).
Before I spring for a new phone, either entailing a downgrade of functionality or an upgrade in wallet butt hurt, I thought I'd look for other options!

If your work is bothered about the version of android (do the not just want it to have security updates rather than the os ver) they'll likely be more concerned about one with a none standard ROM installed.
Thinking through this last night I came to a similar conclusion.Time to suck it up and see if Black Friday throws up anything more interesting than usual (Just bugs me that a perfectly good device needs swapping. Hopefully they do something sensible with them at trade in etc, or I'll stick it on ebay)
They actually may not care if the phone is not rooted. They will detect root which will result in probably failure, assuming they do not allow rooted Android (which would make sense if they demand 14).
The problem would be to unlock the bootloader then find a rom without root (there are plenty) and then lock the bootloader again (they might be detecting against this - but lock/unlock of bootloader wipes the device anyway....)
And then you'd have to hope it works properly

Can't you just ask work for a work phone?Securiy policies at work insist BYOD phones are on the latest version of Android.... Samsung insist I need a newer phone to achieve this.

I don't have to as they offered me one But I'm "one of those" that cannot stand carrying two devices around when one is perfectly capable of fulfilling both needs (security requirements notwithstanding). I also don't just want the work phone, even if I could technically just port over the number I've had forever
It's one of those situations of my own making where there is no ideal I guess.
On the upside, I checked this evening and I can get my preferred replacement phone for a big chunk less than it was available for last night. Even better if I convince myself that my traded in phone will get used for some good, rather than just binned (what do big firms do with traded in phones?).

Samsung sprung a lovely offer up so have bought an S23 Ultra.
With various discounts and offers it's actually not a massive amount more than my Note 10+ 5G cost 4yrs ago.
Until I retire I guess I need to assume a phone has a 4yr lifespan.
5 years for security patches, 4 years OS updates..With various discounts and offers it's actually not a massive amount more than my Note 10+ 5G cost 4yrs ago.

And when you retire all your work contacts will still have your number ..... do you consider that a good or bad thing? With various discounts and offers it's actually not a massive amount more than my Note 10+ 5G cost 4yrs ago.

Samsung announced they have discontinued security updates for the note 10+ in September. If your org has to comply with certain certification's such as Cyber Essentials then staff byod devices are covered under the requirements which means a supported device is mandatory for compliance if accessing organisational data.
While android 12 is still cyber essentials compliant, Samsung declaring that the note 10+ won’t get security updates for a supported OS puts it out of compliance.
