You can do a factory reset, but if it’s a 1st generation air from 2013 it’s not going to run modern apps. You’ve had ten year’s use out of it, so less than a pound a week which seems great value.
It’s quite likely that the next iPad Air will be launched on the 30th October, so either buy that or the current model at a discount

My Dad has an iPad Air 1st gen and I've replaced it for him with the latest Air. Why? Lack of OS updates meant that more and more apps were no longer compatible and half the Sky apps (Sky Sports/ManU TV etc) he uses no longer functioned. I took it home, reset it, and it's basically a paperweight as most of the apps I want to use no longer function.
A shame if it can’t be fixed by a total reset etc
I’m still using an ipad air2 (2014)
Other ‘cheaper’ Amazon ones etc have come & gone in that time, the old ipad is still far superior !
It runs the apps I use, just streaming really (no sky)
Guess i’ll replace it soon, but 10 years use is good going imho
