X Box fund adding nightmare

I'm not sure if you have the same issue as me, I can add funds to my sons xbox which you can see on his profile thingy when he's logged in, but when he wants to buy something instead of coming out of his funds like how it used to work, it sends me an email wanting permission, and if I ok it, it then come sout of my account and not his funds.
It used to work fine until my debit card expired and it took his games pass payment out of his funds, I then renewed the details with the new card but never worked properly again.
