My 2018 Samsung tablet has done really well but it's reaching the stage where is getting too slow and quite frustrating to use so I'm looking for a new tablet.

I originally looked at the Samsung tab S6 lite but it didn't have amazing reviews and I noticed some reviews saying it was starting to slow down (They should try mine if they think it's slow!) But then I noticed the Honor pad X9:

It's much cheaper than the Samsung tablets (Admittedly it has less features) but the reviews seem really positive almost everywhere. Does anyone have any experience with them? I only browse the internet, watch YouTube, Netflix etc so I don't want to spend more than necessary. Are there any other tablets I should be considering?

I have the Honor Pad 9, it's been great thus far, it is not as capable as the more expensive tablets but for what you want it would be fine. Bear in mind it is wi-fi only and requires Bluetooth headphones. The screen is bright and clear despite not being the latest tech and the sound is excellent.

I bought this in December 21 following recommendation on here.

It's great if you don't need phone connectivity.

I've got the S6 lite, I've had it for 3 years, it gets used everyday in and out of my work bag in the patrol car. It's never slowed down on me. It's a fantastic bit of kit, perfect for my needs.

If you only browse the internet and watch Netflix etc... are you sure you want a tablet?

This subject has popped up before and I always suggest considering a Chromebook. My Acer cost me £170.00 five years ago and it gets used day in, day out. A proper keyboard is probably the main advantage, but the thing weighs very little, has brilliant battery life, and pretty much goes everywhere with me.

We have an iPad Pro in the house (bought for my wife for use with one Apple-only application), and even though I could pretty much use that 95% of the time, I wouldn't even consider doing so.

Just a thought.

My big concern with cheap tablets is how fragile they can be.

I bought a Nokia T10 for £99 and managed to crack the screen on it. A replacement screen was £36 but if I couldn't fit it myself I would have just thrown out the tablet (and not replaced it as it was an impulse purchase for me).

Check.the type of glass used on it.

Fire HD 10+ is good for the price and you can sideload android store on it to make it into a normal android tab. Good for consuming media - netflix, YouTube etc, reading comics, playing android and emulated games, Google earth and looking stuff up on the internet. Screen is pretty good for an LCD too. Always have mine nearby when I'm reading to look up maps, images etc.

The + is worth getting over standard as it has the extra memory that makes it able to use Chrome without slowing to a crawl.

It's not as fast as a high end phone or an iPad though but it is much cheaper and they always go on sale for the prime days. Cheap tablets will all be crap for creating stuff like doing photo or video editing.

The Honor pad x9 stood out as it has some good features for the price but the Lenovo P11 has a few additional features (Headphone socket, more ram etc) but are they worth the extra £40-50?

Honor have a further discount on their site so the pad x9 is down to just under £145 which seems like good value.

I would consider a Chromebook but a tablet is just the right size and I can chuck it in a bag when going away etc.

Fair enough, if you want a small device then the Chromebook comes up a little short. Me, I'd take a bigger bag.

I've got a Lenovo duet 5 chrome book tablet. It's a beast, a tablet, a laptop, and it (just) fits in my man bag.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I'm going to go for the Honor pad x9.

Logged on to their app and managed to get money off so it's basically £139. Compared to what I'm currently using anything is an improvement and for what I want to use it for the reviews seem positive.

If it's rubbish I can return it!
