Health issues mean that my old trusty brick of a 16" laptop is becoming terrible to carry on the 5h train journey i have to make once every 3 months..... i will keep it as a home based WFH "PC" but i really need something super light....

but i've not a clue what to get - would prefer as cheap as possible (2nd hand / refurb)

- no need to processing power - everything i do i simply via Chrome + VPN - with a specific work based windows program that needs to be on either Win10 / Win 11
- MS teams

thats it.....

anyone got any ideas or help, would be much appreciated ......

i hear its possible to charge via usb now, so if i can drop the brick of a charger that would be nice......................

Dell 7280 12.5" screen, no usb charging
Dell 7490 14" screen, no usb charging
Dell 7300 13.3" screen, usb-c charging, but you still need some type of charger capable of 65w output, these can weigh as little as 100g (plus cable)

Many on ebay from £100 to £200

Regarding the charger, generally speaking a laptop needs a USB-C PD charger that can deliver the higher voltage levels (usually 20V) and supply 45W or more. Some will tolerate lower power/voltage but there are quite a lot of compact chargers available now that can do the job.

Laptop wise, as always, refurbished ex corporate ThinkPad is my recommendation. X series are the more compact models.

We've got an X390 which has been pretty decent, it's a 2019 model, minimum of 8th gen Intel CPUs so no issues with Windows 11. After that the numbering changed to X13 for the equivalent machine.

Or there's the X1 Carbon series, Gen 11 is current, original Gen 1 was from 2012, again due to Windows 11 CPU requirements personally I wouldn't go older than 7th Gen at this point.

Would echo the Lenovo X recommendation
X280 would be my choice if the screen is large enough for you.
