Hi

I have an ipad mini 2 from 2013/2014.

It resolutely will not connect to the app store or download an IoS update, meaning that certain apps like youtube just will not play ball at all.

I was going to stick it into an old car as fun sat nav which I can still do but would like youtube to work because, well, I'm old and listen to podcasts. Which I watch.

Anyhow, any cheats welcome.

Cheers

I have x2 retired Mini2s in the house and they're too slow to do anything at all on - I would say it needs replacing to be honest - however a workaround that's simple would be to use YouTube in Safari.

Or just use the already built-in Podcasts app?

Thanks - yes that does work albeit with ads.

Becoming a youtube subscriber has changed my usage of the thing dramatically.

Although I'm now paying for Jordan Peterson's lunch unfortunately

Thanks

I keep one as a Sooloos streamer controller/remote.

I haven’t looked but I wonder if YouTube throws up any Linux distros that can be overwritten as an OS?

That is the latest (and probably last update) update it supports. App Store should work but alas the YouTube app requires iOS 14. It will probably still work in Safari and if you pin it to the dock it works pretty much the same. The Apple Podcasts app is basic but should do the job, check Pocketcast that I use but it needs ios 15.

Try an erase and restore reset if it isn’t behaving.

I’d expect that to be very hard verging on impossible. I’ve not checked but presume secure bootloaders and all sorts of protection.

I’m probably going senile but ISTR that I read something earlier this year that someone had indeed cracked the basics with an exploit based on an obscure distro but that a stable solution was some way off being a plug and play upload.
