i've got a 32gb device that has about 5gb videos on but 20gb taken up by other stuff i can't find.

Is this the OS files? Seems ridiculous to be.

Just had a look on my tab S7FE and 25GB is used by the 'system', so expect that's about right. You can get the breakdown from the settings menu.

I've got an older A6 with 16gb storage and the OS/user data is currently sitting at 12.5gb so only 3.5gb free (I only use it for watching YT in bed at night)

Anyway, your storage issue is due to apps caching, some will likely be over a gb each if you never cleaned them out - FB/YT especially - go to Settings>Device Maintenance>Storage>Applications and go into your most used apps, then Storage>Clear Cache (DO NOT select Clear Data as it essentially reset the app and you'll have to relog in/lose everything within the app like save points or bookmarks or a variety of stuff!) You'll have most of your missing storage back.

Once done head back to Device Management and select the Memory tab then select the option to free up memory - give the Tablet a reboot for good measure and repeat the processes above periodically as your storage fills up again thumbup

About a year ago my samsung tablet was always running out of space even thought I was regularly cleaning old files out etc. It was getting difficult to update apps as it was so full. I just couldn't fathom what was filling the space.

Eventually I did a factory reset and reinstalled all the apps and updates. I freed up well over 10gb. Just checked and I still have 10gb free (of 32gb).

That means about 20gb of OS + Apps would be about right?

Interesting, I've put an SD card in for now so will keep this as an overflow.

20GB for an OS on a tablet is obsurd and lazy programming.

20Gb is OS and Apps though. Apps seem to be about 6Gb. Before I did the reset it was about 31Gb and I was struggling to free any space.

Mine shows 'system' and apps separately? 25GB system, and 35GB apps. Unless the 'system' component includes the actual app installation and then the apps part is the data stored within them? Videos from netflix for example?

ETA that's exactly what it seems to be, so ignore my 25GB OS comment! Does seem a mental size when you think about it.
