After the Apple iPhone 15 Pro launch made me feel a bit meh, I am considering getting a Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Does anybody on here have one and if so what are they like to use, etc

Are they any good or are they just a gimmick?

My wife and I have had a 4 for the best part of a year. My sister in law has just upgraded a 3 for a 5.

Camera isn't as good as the S21 Ultra it replaced, but I wouldn't go back to a surfboard now. Finally a smartphone that fits in my pocket, fits in my car wireless charger and doesn't fill a whole table.

Personally I expected it to be a novelty, but it's an absolute game changer. I won't go back. The 5 has a more useable outside screen that SIL claims is brilliant.

Well, its a phone, that folds. I would imagine the folding part is just a gimmick? I can't imagine what use other than "looking cool" it has. Especially after the novelty wears off.

I would usually associate them with chavs, to be honest. Not my cup of tea but we are all different!

Also, the screen is protected when not in use. Which is nice if you live an active life.

But apparently it makes me a chav. laugh Amazing what people judge for these days.

Come on, They are a bit chavy, you can't deny? You see them on FB Marketplace all the time, being sold by Britneys' and Tyrones'.

They're functionally brilliant.

I don't use FB so I can't comment on the rest.

In my experience, an iPhone with a cracked screen would be the chav weapon of choice. I haven't actually met anyone outside of my post above with a folding phone.

It's too late, Baldchap. You have been judged. You chav!

Personally I can't see how buying the phone that suits your needs can determine your social station, but I know nothing.

Oh no, they are too! biggrin Honestly IMO, anyone paying over 1k for a phone is just "trying a bit too hard".

Not sure wealth has anything to do with buying a phone.

Would this be acceptable?

You brought cost into it.

Some people might be trying, others just buy what they like and don't think about it.

Yes I have seen various videos on YouTube where the outside screen on the Flip 5 has been made more usable. Reminds me of the Motorola Razr V3 days.

I'm just concerned how different the Android UI will be compared to the Apple iOS as I have used Apple iPhone's for the best part of 10 years now.

Having used both (Samsung version of Android and iOS), they're both easy to use with very similar features. The main difference is if you use Apple, have have to do it their way and with Android, you can choose your way. Samsung usually give some freebies too (free chromebook, 12 months Disney and min £200 trade in).

I had a flip 3 when they came out and that was the best bit for me! Ended up with a skin on the outer glass though after putting a big scratch down it...

Shame the hinges worked loose and the screen cable started failing. The form factor is fab on them.

I never ceases to amaze me that people still trot that line out - "A thousand pound for a phone ?!!"

But, it's not just a phone is it ? Do you think all it does it makes phone calls ?

Not a Flip, but I've got the Fold and it's a total gamechanger.

Could not go back to a normal phone now.

12 months into a 4 and pleased to report zero issues, so maybe they've ironed out the bugs?
