Laptop number pad
Discussion
Hi folks
In the market for a new laptop. No specific budget but we are not after the most powerful machine !
Requirements
Must have a separate number pad on keyboard. Not negotiable from SWMBO.
Windows 11 installed
We will add M office
Decent sized screen as our eyes aren’t getting any better
Rapid switch on so assume SSD ?
Use
Home office. Word, excel. Internet.
It won’t travel (or rarely), it won’t be used for gaming.
Options to consider please ? This laptop will augment a current household mesh PC for ease of use or when I’m hogging the study working from home.

I recently purchased a new Lenovo laptop. I think most 15.6'' laptops will have the number pad due to the size.
I didn't plan my purchase on the the number pad as I dont use it, my main reason was I like the screen size, it has an SSD, I7 processor, etc and is lightening quick. I can defiantly see the benefit in a SSD over a normal disc drive, it turns on and is in a usable state in seconds.
Didn't break the bank either.

As others have mentioned, you can get a USB numpad.

Some Asus 15.6" laptops will have a numpad like this one:

Or one that's a bit more powerful

I've got a USB numberpad. Much better than one fixed to a keyboard as it's more flexible. I needed a smaller keyboard for using a Speed Editor with Resolve, but needed the numbers to speed things up with Blender. The mistake I made was having mine wired. Should have gone wireless. I'll never return to a full keyboard.
Must admit we used to give out those usb keypads at work and thinking about it, I reckon they would indeed be much better than a built in one on a laptop, my Lenovo 15.6 has a keypad but honestly I wish it just had a proper full size keyboard instead and I could plug in a keypad if I wished. The keys on the keypad are quite cramped so I couldn't imagine using it all the time, for me at least, it's a waste.

Of course the other alternative is to pick up a full size Keyboard and have it in her usual WFH location and she can just plug it in? Most Laptop Keyboards aren't great either and I certainly wouldn't want to type on one for hours.
This was my thinking. My laptop has a number pad, but it's not laid out like a "proper" keyboard, so some of the keys don't come as natural to me. Certainly wouldn't use it swapping between office and home if it was for work.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
