I have a very handy, compact USB-A flash drive like this:

But I am now struggling to find similar with a USB-C connector...

Has anyone got anything similar?

(For use in a car's centre console...the USB-A one sits flush enough to the wall of the centre console that it doesn't interfere with its use. Also helps that the USB-A connector is nice and sturdy...I am not a fan of USB-C at all).

Small usbc to usb adapter might be easier to find https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/225732381019?mkcid=16&a...

This is quite neat with the memory flat on rather than sticking out.

I have one of those already, but once you add the small USB-A flash drive plugged in, it's long enough that you might just as well buy a "std" USB-C flash drive unfortunately.

I had seen these....lack of branding and lack of a 128Gb version is putting me off.

Am now thinking maybe something like this might work best:

Or just get a micro sd card reader then you can put larger cards in as needed https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185717628860?mkcid=16&a...

It sticks out around 2cm after the connector...

The Samsung USB-A one is about 8-9mm. (The card reader is about the same).

The 90deg adapter is about the same 8-9mm. Just seems a bit of a clumsy solution.

The flat USB-C drive crusoe linked to first would be great if it came in bigger capacities and was branded.

Suggest OP bins his laptop and gets one with a usb A connector so he can use his favourite thumb drive...

USB-A connectors are massive so I would expect the drive vendors use some of the space for the memory device making overall size smaller, USB-C connectors are tiny themselves and they can't do that hence being bigger overall as a result.

The OP is after a non-existent holy grail IMO.

You may be right.

It's not for a laptop though (mine has USB-A and USB-C smile).

It's for a car.

I think this might be the neatest solution.

The issue you will have is that the tiny USB-A sticks have the memory physically inside the connector. With USB-C being that much smaller, you don't have the space to do this so they will have to get more creative.

Thanks all.

Have ordered a 90deg adaptor and will see how that works out.

Might be a bit late to the party, you can get USB sticks that have not an A and C connector.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/KEXIN-Memory-Waterproof-S...

Had one for years, could easily copy movies off my laptop and watch them on my tablet just using the USB stick as storage.

Why do posters not read the OP? He's looking for a low profile USB stick for a particular reason - the one you linked to is worse than most of the other suggestions.

It's all good biggrin

I'd done a bunch of Googling, but sometimes people find things I don't.

OP, have you considered one of these?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/USB-Hamburger-Shaped-Borl...

If anyone looks in the car, they'll think you're a dirty git leaving uneaten Mac D's in there.

hehe

1) That is USB-A, sadly
2) There seems to be a distinct lack of meat, pickles and sauces on that burger, so no delf-respecting crim' will be thinking that's real, will break into the car and steal my treasured collection of Al Jarreau and Barry Manilow MP3s.

Another option I have is to use a full sized hard disk drive. This would fill the centre console area and hence prevent anyone else putting crap in there that might break my MP3 collection.

Any other thoughts from outside of the box very much welcomed! (Plugging my phone in is also an obvious option...but I do like to have 15 different ways of achieving the same thing).

Dave.

What car is it?

I'm wondering how the software would react to a USB Hub of some description...
