I have a Vodafone router connected to a Deco mesh. Like most people I have a large number of devices on my network. I would like to change my SSID (it is still the name of a previous house, and it bothers me). Is there an easy way of pushing the change to all the connected devices, to just tell them that 'you know network x, it is now called network y'. I really would like to avoid having to go around every device and manually reconnect them to the 'new' network if I can.

Any pointers appreciated.

I don't know of another option.

Things like Echoes allow the SSID/password to be uploaded to Amazon, so you could potentially reduce the significant pain if you set up a dummy SSID with the new name, join one device and allow it to upload before migrating the main network?

Can you create a new SSID then hide the old one. Everything still connected but your OCD fixed smile

That sounds like it might work. Keep all the working stuff in the background on the hidden old one.

But I'll still know it's there. :/

You could try all kinds of whizzy and wonderful things I'm sure.

Or you could just change the SSID and then spend 30 minutes reconnecting everything and get it done. In fact if you'd started when you originally posted you'd have been done by coffee time biggrin

Probably not a good idea to have an SSID that identifies your house. Just a thought if someone can hack in and identify more details about you and your address could be bad your finances smile

We are the only house for some considerable distance. They would need to be on our land and fairly obvious to us if they were on our wifi, but point noted.

Save yourself the hassle in the future and use non-specific SSIDs so when you move again you won't have to do it.

There is no simple way I'm afraid. Mobile devices print yourself a QR code to join them as it does it all in one go.

Agreed, like wanting to for a pee in bed, you spend longer thinking about it!

If you update your Deco software, there is now the option for an IOT network. Recently added in the last few months.

I believe you can change the main SSID, then put the old details in as the IOT network. Abracadabra.

Most routers/mesh system should support mulitple SSIDs, still means going round changing everything over though. Can just do it at a more leisurely rate.

IOT networks may also enable the network segmentation or device isolation so have to be careful why they have called it that.
