Howdy

Does anyone have suggestions for a wireless mouse that doesn't die after a few months?

Will just be used for work (design engineer).

The <£20 ones I've bought previously always seemingly have issues with the scroll wheel jumping around

Have you considered a trackball, I find a ball much smoother in operation than a mouse.

I currently use a cad mouse, I have a slew of Logitech MX mice, but this one feels good in my gigantic hands. Software is a bit ropey though.

OP, the Logitech master 2S and 3S have been the gold standard for a long time. Often on offer at amazon.

I have a Rapoo. Battery lasts about half a year, connection is bluetooth.
Do you shut down your computer when not using it?

I like the CadMouse weight and size. I don't have huge hands but find more normal mice too small. The key thing for me though, is the dedicated middle mouse button. I've never really got into the software elements of them so can't really comment on that.

Bought my current on in mid 2019 and its still working fine with daily use. The rubber grip on the inside is coming away a bit now, but I won't hesitate to replace it when it becomes too much. I'll have had my moneys worth out of it

Logitech MX Master 3 has been great for me. Works great on a lot of surfaces, only needs charging once every few months.

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll take a look.

Not sure why I didn't even think of looking at 3DConnexion either considering I use one of their spacemouse in my other hand

The logitech options look good also

Would that cause for them to routinely start to play up?

Another vote for Logitech. I've got three MX525's the oldest 2 of which were bought in 2015 and are still going strong. Did have to replace the feet on one but they're readily available. Newest one was bought in 2019 as a certified refurbished.

No problem with the MX525. One is only used very intermittently these days and springs into life on command.

Does the mouse stay on your desk or get thrown in a bag regularly? I found mice really suffer double clicks or wheel issues after being carried about

I had 2 connected to the same dongle. One stayed on my desk at home but the other was in and out of my bag pretty much every day when I was working away. Never had any problems. I did make sure I switched it off before it went in the bag.

Have had Logitech Masters of various flavour for years. Makes it almost impossible to use anything else, frankly.

Interesting. I went through a heap of mice when I was was taking them away every day.

The logitech ones seemed to suffer quite quickly to the point I downloaded an app to eliminate false doubleclicks, so I switched to microsoft which appeared to be more robust. Not a problem for me now as I have the 3dconnexion which stays on my desk (although it is supplied with a case should I need to travel with it)

I went out to buy one yesterday. Ended up with. Logitech m330 silent.

It’s very quiet. The resolution seems higher than my last mouse (pointing seems more accurate, smoother?). It has a nice but silent click and the wheel is nicely knurled and accurate.

My mouse before last (HP) went for 8 years … the next HP not so good. This new one 30 gbp. Better than I expected.

I think I have this one, a bit spendy at around £130 but very good.

I got the master 3 as it can be had for £82 on Amazon and is excellent in terms of comfort, and rare re-charging needs. You also don't inadvertently click the buttons whilst resting your hand/fingers on it.

Another Logitech MX Master user here. Been using a Master for over 3 years for hours a day, 5+ days a week. Rarely needs re-charging, and very comfortable to use.

Recently mine developed a fault randomly inputting tab characters, which I couldn't work out how/why. Despite this, I've been so happy with it before the fault that I've just bought another, which (so far) has been flawless. If it lasts another 3 years, I'd replace with the same again. One of the best features when browsing is if you spin the scroll wheel, it automatically disengages the ratchet and spins freely which enables really fast and silent scrolling up/down long pages/documents. You can also press a button to disengage the ratchet if you want to operate it silently all the time.

MX Master 2S is currently £63 on Amazon.

My wife was unhappy with her (Microsoft) mouse, but didn't get on with the Master as it was too big for her smaller hands. She's been using the smaller Logitech M705 Marathon mouse daily for the last 18 months and is very happy with it. Currently £34 on Amazon.

Apart from size, the Master is able to connect to 3 different computers, by selecting a switch on the bottom (1 via the supplied USB dongle, and the other 2 by bluetooth). This has been useful switching between a desktop and laptop. The M705 doesn't have this feature - just connects to a single computer with the USB dongle.
