Hoping someone might know what the issue is here.

Have a 2023.Samsung The Frame TV.

Have Sony WF1000 XM5 earbuds (just released).

Can get the earbuds to connect to the tv but no sound comes out of the earbuds. The TV says it's the connected sound output and the Sony app says the earbuds are connected to the tv.

But no sound comes out.

When I disconnect the tv and so the only connection is my phone to the earbuds, sound comes out.

Any ideas why they're connected to the tv but sound?

Bluetooth can only produce sound from one device at a time.

Switch Bluetooth off on your phone and then connect with TV.

It's a pain as I often switch between phone and laptop.

Worth checking if it's using the correct source.

Assuming the app on the phone is the same as for my on ears, you should see a section for connected devices with a loudspeaker icon next to one of the sources. If its on the wrong on, tap on the devices and you should be able to see which one is being used.

It's normally pretty good at switching to the active source in my experience, but does occasionally require a bit of help via the app.

This - My Bose headphones often connect to my phone and TV at the same time, but sound will only come from one source - I have no idea why it accepts multiple connections when it can only use one at a time.

Thanks chaps, good suggestions but no joy.

So:

I disconnected the Bluetooth on phone so the only thing the earbuds are connected to is the tv. Tv confirms connection.

I have checked the app and when connected and the speaker symbol is against the tv so only that is selected for playback.

The track forward, pause etc on the earbuds works so it is connected to the tv and can pause,.move track forward on the tv.

I hear a quiet sound from the earbuds and when i tap them it makes its little bongs and sounds to acknowledge a control or tap is being done. So the earbuds are on, connected and appear to be ok to play but for some reason don't.

The hissing/quiet sound neither goes up nor down in volume.

It's like it's all connected and controllable, both the tv and earbuds are working together but no sound from any source is coming out.

When I disconnect the tv and revert to phone they immediately have sound.

Not a clue why the earbuds arent playing what's coming out of the tv.

Even though the sound is going to come through the ear buds, when connected try increasing the volume control setting on your TV. This works for me on TV and HIFI.

Does the Tv use an older Bluetooth protocol?

Could your buds be too 'smart'?
I'm not sure. The TV is 2 months old but I suppose it could be previous gen internals.

The weird thing is the buds are connect, if I raise the volume on the buds it increase the tv volume (but no sound comes out) and it can pause/play the track on the tv, all via the buds control. But no sound. Weird.

Okay. So I have had my earbuds connected, or so my TV tells me through the ear buds, but on the odd occasion I have to go to the sound control on the Tv and select that I want to use blue tooth, not which actual blue tooth device.
I do remember buying some Sony WF1000 a couple of years ago and where an absolute pain to set up so much so they're sat on my book shelf collecting dust.
Since the I've been using £30 ones from Amazon, work perfectly straight out of the box.

Thanks chaps, all good suggestions and tried them and even rang Samsung Customer Service, who were surprisingly good and even remote connected in to the tv, but the issue turned out to be the earbuds, specifically a Sony Bluetooth issue.

In their app they have two sub settings - prioritise sound or prioritise stability. Basically it won't play sound when it's trying prioritise stability is selected.

Thurned this off and it worked.

Weird and annoying.
