Recommend a laptop budget around £700

My Dell XPS 15 (bought back in 2018) has been condemned by local laptop repair shop due to a motherboard fault which can't be repaired. So it looks like time for a new laptop. I loved the XPS but never really needed something so high end and don't want spend so much this time.
My use is pretty basic (admin, browsing, basic photo editing and playing movies) but I do tend to hold on to my laptops for minimum 5+ years so looking for something reliable. Also needs decent storage 512GB or more. It does get moved about a fair bit so don't want anything too flimsy.
Is there a massive jump in quality between £500-£700 price points.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated or brands to avoid.

I'd be looking at a Chromebook too. Mine cost the princely sum of £169.00 and it has rarely left my side for four years.
Weighs very little, battery lasts ten hours.
The only thing I'd like in a 'better' one would be a brighter screen and illuminated keyboard.
If such a device would suit your needs then I imagine a £500/£600 one would be a great purchase.
