One headset for all - smartest purchase?
Discussion
Chums
If I wanted to purchase a single pair of headphones that can be used for
sport - running / climbing wall
AND
have excellent ambient noise reduction blah blah in order that you can very high quality phone calls
...am I correct in thinking that this is when thoughts should turn to the airpod family despite cost?
Because as far as I can work out the bone conductor thingys are rubbish for phone calls, as are Bose noise cancelling can (a real disappointment for the expense - I mean they're excellent at the noise cancelling per se but not background noise when on the phone and are no good at all for phone calls).
I've balked at the cost for years but coming around to them I think

In ear headphones and running/climbing could be problematic... I'm sure some people have no problems however lots of movement and in-ear headphones tend to pop out of my ears... Annoying when it's doing housework, possible breakage when it's halfway up a climbing wall or into a drain.
However, as an android user I've found the Pixel Buds Pro really rather good. Plus they work on the "find my device" app if you want that.

A set of Sony XM...s for home - consistently the best available according to publications who review such things (and lots of owners here)...
A set of Aftershox bone conduction headphones for exercise. If you ever enter any competitions or races you won't typically be allowed in-ear headphones and they allow you to hear sirens and vehicles when running outside. In-ears get bloody nasty with sweat too.

Thanks DM - can you attest to phone call quality? It's just that it is now abundantly apparent from work conversations that folk using the airpods could be standing next to a lawnmower and I, on the other end of the phone, would be none the wiser! However, as an android user I've found the Pixel Buds Pro really rather good. Regrettably perhaps but I have had so many bad experiences with Sony products I won't risk again - sorry! A set of Aftershox bone conduction headphones for exercise. Sounds like you're a "two device" man - points noted.
I'd probably look at the Beats Fit Pro. Quite decent discounts on them at the moment as well:

I would say a pair of Beats PowerBeats would probably be most suitable and the ear hook makes sure they stay out for vigorous activity
Sound quality and connection is great and call clarity is excellent too.
The battery on mine last 7-8hrs easily non-stop even after 12-18mths of use.

Thanks. You feel they suppress background noise on a phone call well? Sound quality and connection is great and call clarity is excellent too.

I've certainly had no-one pause and ask where I am/what I am doing, which is the usual tell for bad sound/noise cancellation. I've not used them when cutting the grass, mind... That's one of the jobs my Sony WH-1000XM3s handles.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
