Regarding rushed videos with inaccurate results that should have been spotted before being published for the monetary views and theft of a business prototype which was then sold.

And this follow up......

There is also this from a former worker accusing them of sexual harassment and bullying abusive environment.

I could imagine (not through his own choice), linus appearing in alot less videos.

It will be interesting if this affects sales of their not particularly cheap products.

The 'apology' video is really to little, too late IMO and trying to be humorous it has really missed the mark. The treatment of Billet Labs is terrible, but the treatment of Madison Reeve is criminal (and she is likely not the only one) and LMG as a company clearly have a major toxicity problem from upper management down.

Unsurprisingly, the apology video doesn't address anything relating to Madison, and for those not aware, this is the thread linked above on a single page - https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/169169374025422...

I enjoy LTT vids, there was a golden point where they were engaging enough to get me back into the state of building computers with a good balance of entertaining.

But Linus media group clearly haven’t scaled well as a company. Linus has recognised that with the appointment of a CEO, but it all seems a little bit too late.

It really does seem to be heading towards a death spiral atm.

The toxic culture has been evident for some years and I have to believe it comes from Linus. It seems a select few are kept close and they will do anything to make him happy.

I suspect in a couple of years we will see the video “He was offered $100M and now it’s worth nothing”.

I don’t know why he didn’t sell when he hated the job. It makes no sense. Instead, he has brought in his old boss as CEO.

I agree with the LMG staff that they produce far too many videos and the content is garbage. It only seems to have got worse with Linus in so many worthless videos. I stopped watching. Now they are actively offending their peers.

There’s no future for Linus now.

Been watching this unfold over the last few hours. What a absolute car crash.

Linus STILL hasn't given any justification for auctioning off that Billet Labs kit after trashing them. That is indefensible imho. Imagine that happeneing in any other industry. *Sorry we gave away your prototype.... Don't know who to either. yikes

Their "apology" video is pure cringe. A bunch of supposed professionals apologising for being a but crap. The emails they show are embarrassing.

CEO using a teleprompter for something he could rerecord as much as he wanted. banghead

All of them had a pause button in their hand as well.

Yvonne and Luke are the only 2 that seem remotely sincere and probably hold the company together.

The "ad" nonsense they put in for "humour" was pathetic.

tbh if any of Madison | Suop's posts are true, Steve calling them out after being called out by them, is the least of their worries.

Billet Labs sent them a 3090 Ti to go with the now sold off copper cooler.

Billet still haven't had the 3090 Ti returned either.

That $100m offer for the business he had a few months ago must seem so far away now.

I think the main problem is Linus’ ego. He’s the one that decided to make 25 videos a week when he knew that would cause problems, but decided to do it anyway. I think Ed and James were too afraid to tell Linus that 25 videos a week is too much. I think Linus is too fixated on being the company that reviews all personal tech and testing the tech as well.

I didn't even know they had this channel until recently.

https://www.youtube.com/@ShortCircuit

Bin that off, produce better content on the main channel. Ahhh, that's not how you make money from YouTube is it... Hence all the "2nd Channels" these days.

tbh I enjoy Linus' vids for his hap-hazard, buffoony nonsense with some education thrown in. That's why I subscribed. Don't go attacking your fellow YouTubers though, that's a poor show.

Especially Steve. laugh He takes no prisoners.

I enjoyed Steve’s video enough to watch it a couple of times. It isn’t surprising there’s a culture problem at LTT, the channel has always been Linus and all the other staff are there just to make Linus front and centre as much as possible. After as many years as it has been with 120 staff he’s out of his depth in managing a company that size and has become the thing he used to regularly criticise when the channel was based in the kitchen.

There continues to be more stuff coming out, a former co-worker indicating that Madison raised or spoke about these issues to them at the time which clearly then lends more weight to them.

The HR meeting recording that has been leaked also clearly shows Linus and LMG knew about this beforehand, it isn't a shock to them, which is pretty damning.

I think they are in a position now that unless Linus goes or at the very least removes himself from in front of the camera, LMG are screwed.

I suspect it's the Youtube algorithm that means they went down the route of 25 videos a week. It needs quantity over quality.

Oooh - Youtube Drama!

One thing that is noticable about all these youtube hoo-hahs is how everyone piles on when something becomes an 'issue'.

I really like Youtube (so much that I pay for the Premium version) but it's pretty clear that they are starting to really exploit the creators who make videos through various algorithmic changes and rules.

At the end of the day, what made the platform great is the massive amount of keen, enthusiastic people making videos about what they are interested in. You pick and choose what you like and the algorithm recognises that and pushes new material it thinks you will like from the vast pool of all kinds of videos that exist on the service. This has worked really well.

But, it seems that YT is now trying to turn itself into a 'content factory', forcing the video makers to push out material with an emphasis on maximum commercialisation/monetisation potential.

I liked the tech reviews when I needed to build a PC, but recently this quest for quantity of content has shown a marked reduction in quality.

I noticed recently that I don't like all the stupid inane jokes and "banter"... It doesn't surprise me that there would be almost a laddish culture, and that in a population of people with high likelihood of struggling a bit socially (loads of nerds) that there would be an immature workplace culture... "Calm your tits" etc

Storm in a tea cup! Really isn't a big deal I don't think , and i have long since got bored of LTT tbh. They lost Billet Labs in the confusion, and look ot have made amends swiftly anyway, and the Madison stuff just seems to be a bit of a thin skin in a high pressure team & some poor attempts at humour.
