Mobile Simcard in Desktop/Laptop
Discussion
Has anyone experience in using the simcard from their phone to get Internet on their laptop or desktop? I know you can get 4G dongles that fit in the usb port but rather than spending a lot on basically another simcard I wondered if it's possible to use the one in my phone. I guess these things use a lot more data than in the phone but I have an unlimited data contract. I see that you can get things that you put your simcard into which then plugs into a usb port in the laptop /desktop. Do they work and any pitfalls? Cheers.

Put the phone in WiFi sharing (essentially access point mode) and connect the PC to the phone WiFi.
You could put the sim in a dongle or similar, but why bother?
I tried that but all it does is share the wifi signal from the house router which is very poor. Am I doing it wrong? You could put the sim in a dongle or similar, but why bother?

It's been a very long time since I've seen a laptop that has a mobile transmitter in it.
Also on Android you can use USB tethering that saves faffing about with WiFi.
Interesting. You mean I can just connect the phone to a usb port on the windows machine to share the data signal? Also on Android you can use USB tethering that saves faffing about with WiFi.
