I have a Samsung S23U and a Galaxy Watch 5 with it's own SIM. I naively assumed that I could use the Calls and Texts On Other Devices feature to pick up phone calls on my watch when my phone is at home on the WiFi and my watch has no WiFi connection. Nope.

I usually just take my phone with me, but now there's WhatsApp for my watch I'm going to go out more without my watch.

1. Is there something I can use to add a toggle switch to my home screen on my phone to that will turn Call Forwarding to my watch number on and off?

2. Can anyone think of a call clever automation so my phone automatically forwards calls when I don't have it with me?

3. Any better ideas?

Ta!

I don't use my Samsung Watch any more (wasn't getting the value out of having it on contract)....but I am pretty sure calls rang out on both devices automatically. So when I was out without my phone, I could take calls to my phone number via the watch etc.

I don't really see why you'd need to turn that off - just turn the watch off. Maybe just turn the volume down on the watch. KISS smile

What network were you with? I think with EE they have both watch and phone numbers tied together in the their backend system, I'm using O2 and their setup is two separate phone numbers that don't ring together.

So if I leave my phone at home and my wife calls me, I get the call on my watch if my watch has WiFi, but not if it only has mobile signal. As you can imagine, I got in loads of trouble when I went out not realising that!

It's not too bad now as I'll at least get the abusive WhatsApp message and can call back using the second mobile number, but ideally I would like the calls to forward automatically or at least be easy to turn forwarding on.

Wondering if there's a Home Assistant based solution too as I could then trigger the forward from my watch when I forget!

I've not really used the watch on it's own much either, mainly because it doesn't take photos, but the call thing was another reason, plus WhatsApp I could only reply to messages via the notification, which was a bit of a problem. I can overcome the communication limitations now there's WhatsApp, so now I want the call forwarding issue to go away too!

Sat at the airport no bored, so had a Google about this. I haven't looked at since last year when the state of play was that O2 didn't read it know how to set things up or how it should work.

Now there's an article about it on O2 that at least says it should work so long as the phone is on and online and I found some settings that have appeared at some point that should make it work now I've switched them on. It looks like Android added the option to not use mobile data for calls and texts on other devices and defaulted it to off, which mi isn't have been part of my problem too.

Will test it and see if I still need to mess around with forwarding....
