I bought a fairly cheap cabinet from eBay, with the main purpose to hide the newly installed broadband and house the router/phone, which it does well.

However, it has lights, with a remote that I cannot make work.

I am probably being dense as the lights have power but the instructions seem to suggest it’s already paired, and I’ve tried each of the options to install/pair to no avail.

Any ideas?

There should be a sensor attached to the strip near the power pack make sure the remote can see this.

On the ones I have it’s an IR sensor so needs line of sight to operate.

Thanks.

Like this ?

It’s where it plugs in and always in sight.

It's RF so no line of sight required, I have a similar LED controller in my campervan.

Have you removed the plastic in the battery compartment of the remote? There's normally a piece of transparent plastic isolating the battery.

Yep, I’ve done that, and also swapped over the battery, just to check.

Whenever I press any button on the remote it lights up so I think it’s working.

Just can’t work out how to make it work with the lights, it’s perplexing.

My RF controller just worked as it was pre paired but there was a button combination on the remote for pairing.

From memory mine only paired for a short time after powering on the controller so turn on the power and then quickly press the appropriate buttons on the remote for RF pairing, I seem to remember it took a couple of attempts (power cycling the LEDS each time.

The other possibility of course is your is faulty which is always possible with really cheap devices.

Yep, I’ve tried the combinations so I’m moving towards faulty.

Will see what the seller says tomorrow

Thought I'd update and finish off this one.

Contacted seller (eBay) and got a surprisingly good response.

New light strip and remote sent out and all working so clearly a faulty light strip.

All good now
