I am retiring soon and have pictures on multiple computers that I want to pull into one place. I have got the ones from my work laptop as I had saved them in a folder but I still have 2-3 old laptops

I seem to remember seeing some software and maybe a USB stick that searched and transferred pictures

Is my memory right and if it is can you tell me what it’s called or am I already starting to decline in the memory department?

Thanks

Not sure what sort of internet connect you have, just stick them all on a cloud service. Something like Onedrive or Google Drive. Install Onedrive etc on each machine and drop your photos into it.

Then they will always be available from one place, across the web, no matter what your device.

Very fast B-road band but the real reason I want the software for is to find the photos on each laptop as they will be in all sorts of different places and I don’t want to spend hours searching or miss any and also the thing I had seen also removes duplicates.

Also some of the other machines will be fairly old and the only reason for keeping is so we don’t lose the pictures.

Would be interesting to see the software exists that can distinguish between ‘your’ pics and the many thousands of pics typical programs and OS’s install. Unless you have named or tagged your pics in a particular way, it sounds difficult.

Yes, this sounds quite challenging. Presumably the photos are all his own digitals (not scanned slides/prints) so I guess the original image is only likely to be in a couple of obvious folders on each PC?

Having done a bit of digging there is a search facility buried in Windows 10 and 11 (don’t know if it is on early versions) that pretty much find every jpeg, BMP, etc file so will give that a try but definitely seen something that is a USB based tool that finds them all and saves onto USB although it was a good while ago.

Or you could just search in windows explorer for "*.jpg OR *.png" or whatever file extensions you have or want to search for.

This is the type of thing I had been looking for, looks pretty pricey and I don’t know if like someone said it may not have worked well

Similar to the Omni on Amazon ... at least you know it would be easy to return if it didn't work as claimed:
