Home CCTV to car screen
Discussion
My driveway is a square right off the main road going through the village. It's a concealed entrance/exit but Highways do not deem the road having a high enough traffic flow to warrant their putting up a sign from each direction.
A mirror on the land opposite is likely to get pinched so I'm not keen on trying that idea so for now it's the usual inching out carefully.
Does the technology exist that if I placed a couple of cameras on a post at the entrance to the property, looking squarely each way at the road, that these images could be seen on the car's screen? I presume we could use either the car or home wifi.
The car's a 2019 Kodiaq.
Thanks!

Jailbroken iPhone would in theory allow you to mirror a CCTV app to your car’s screen. Or you could just stick the phone in a holder and view the feed on the phone’s screen.
Android might be more straightforward but there are still limits as to what you can mirror via Android auto.
You’d also need wireless cameras which could connect to your wi-fi. Any lag and you’d be sitting there waiting to connect.
Sounds like a load of hassle to be honest!

Thanks both for your replies. I've held off on the mirrors due to neighbours saying they've been nicked in the past. It does sound like a hassle but so are the looks from people - often those going the fastest - who forget we cannot see them coming when inching out.
Will keep looking around for info. Cheers!

The issue with cameras is that there is usually some delay between the recorder and the phone. I wouldn't want to risk pulling out knowing there could be some undetermined delay. I would try a mirror and see what happens.
Yep. We installed a basic camera in the kitchen when we got a puppy, just so we could have a live stream when working upstairs to make sure everything was ok.In the house alone one day, and it scared the st out of me when I saw someone walk into view, until I realised it was me about 5 minutes earlier when I went downstairs to make a cup of tea

That's a good point! We already have exterior cameras and the software works well, but no substitute for the human eye!MisanoPayments said:

Seriously though, relying on the internet and wifi for this would be nothing short of stupid. The delays are very unpredictable. Anything from milliseconds to several seconds, even minutes if there’s a probem.A convex mirror is universally used for these types of situations. Get some security nuts and bolts and securely it very well to a post.
I think you need to assess the point of all this really...
So you install a camera, and you catch someone in the act of stealing the mirror.
Now what?
The Police will give you a reference number for insurance purposes...pretty pointless for 'just' a mirror.
You could post the video to the local FB group...but what are you going to do if the person is identified, are you videoing publicly accessible land, did you put up signs saying you're recording said land, did you add a privacy marker to the image (I guess not otherwise what's the point of the previous points), did you register your CCTV system, are you breaking data protection, are you going to pay a visit with 'the boys', and are you going to get in more trouble than it's worth if so?
CCTV is a bit of a minefield if someone decides they want it to be. It's usually not of course, and the very fact there's a camera there is enough to stop low level petty sillyness...but if you do go down the posting the image on social media route, be prepared for some potential bother.

Read the OP again, that's not what they wanted the CCTV for So you install a camera, and you catch someone in the act of stealing the mirror.
