Mine seems to be getting rather full along with the external drive I have.
I reckon a 1TB M2 could be called for.
Samsung 980 PRO SSD with Heatsink maybe. £89 on Jeff's site.

Anyone done the job recently and found it easy? I think the hardest bit will be getting the ps5 cover off.

Cheers

So no danger of snapping the PS5 cover whilst trying to remove it? biggrin

I'm interested in doing this too.

I read that only PS4 games can be run from an external drive, whereas PS5 games need to be on the internal drive?

If true, I'll need to have a shuffle around, but if I can get an external 2TB SSD for £100, I think it's a good idea.

I've upgraded to 1TB then upgraded again to 2TB on my PS5 this prime day.

I used a Crucial P5 Plus both times.

First time I used a cheapy heatsink and when I took it out it was still roasting hot after 10 mins - as there is zero airflow in the SSD enclosure. Therefore I recommend the Sabrent PS5 M.2 heatsink. I replaces the whole cover and is then cooled by the PS5 fans and comes in cheaper than the heatsink upgrade on the P5+ for example.

Audi321 - You are correct about only PS4 games on an external drive. Though you can archive PS5 games onto one if your internet connections isnt great and you run out of internal SSD space. I'm running an external SSD as well and Im convinced the PS4 games load faster than they did using an SSD on a PS4 Pro previously. Just make sure us get a USB 3.1 Gen2 / 10GBps USB enclosure/adaptor.

The M2 1TB and 2TB SSD discussed so far are not external. You have to take the cover off and slot them in inside. So not quite as easy. I think getting the cover off will be the trickiest part, really dont want to be breaking it. Once they're fitted though PS5 games will run off it fine I gather. 1.5TB in total for me should be fine I think. Due to the other comments about cooling I'd say its possibly best to run games from the consoles own storage rather than the M2 SSD but I *think* its possible games actually load faster from the M2, we shall see.

You can get a 4Tb external that's intended for PS4/5 for about £90

Don't worry its pretty easy to remove the cover.

You are best getting a SSD with a heatsink, as I am a tightwad I got SSD without one (WD SN850X) and bought a cheap heatsink.

It took me about 15 mins to do

Go For it!

Yep, I bought one. Bit slow copying to it since it's not SSD but that's not really a big deal and PS4 games still run from it. Seemed like a bargain option to me
