Camera Drones (for beginner)
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm totally new to the drone world and looking for recommendations on a decent beginner kit.
Ideal requirements:
- 4k video quality
- Follow me/GPS function and easy return.
- Stability in windy weather (watched a video of a Holy Stone drone with a gps function, which apparently helps with stability).
- Preferably something which is not too complicated to use. However, with practice, I'm sure I can get used to something if slightly complex.
- Unsure if such controllers are available but one with a screen fitted rather than having to use a mobile phone.
- Any other useful functions/must haves which I may have overlooked
As its a beginner drone, looking for the lower price brackets. However, would consider one of the pricier drones as a second hand purchase.
Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed

I've just bought my first drone to play around with.
I considered a used DJI, but then decided to go new as any used DJI's were older and there's always concerns over battery life and condition on used stuff. The flight time of a drone is obviously entirely dependent on the battery.
I wanted to go inexpensive as I'm still uncertain just how much use I will get out of it.
So after some research I bought a Potensic Atom SE from the Potensic store on Amazon.
Bought the drone kit which contains a decent protective travel bag, the drone, a controller, cables, and two batteries.
The camera only has a vertical gimbal as it uses EIS similar to what is used on the likes of a GoPro. DJI use a full 3-axis gimbal.
But I got it with a promo offer at £219 for the full kit. Retail on Amazon seems to be £249 but you might also get a promo discount at checkout.
I decided it best to start here and see how I go. I'd never flown a drone before last night but setup and grasping the basic flight controls and the app was easier than I expected. I got a little over 25 minutes of flying time/practice on one battery in the middle speed setting. Got a nice photo out of it too.
Is the camera on a DJI better? I'd expect so, but then I'd be paying at least 3 times the price so this is easier to justify as a starter.
It meets all the criteria you set out, albeit the controller in the kit will require your phone. There might be a video equipped standalone remote though. They do produce accessories and spares also.
