Is there such a thing that can do this?

I’ve two calls from very similar numbers that a left a brief voice message that I am pretty sure are the same person.

I called back the first time and it clearly went to answer phone for a different number, it started to read the number, but the mail box was full so it hung up.

Just trying to work out if it’s a scam.

Googling the number says it’s been searched a few times since April but it’s not obvious.

Mulitiple phone number spoofing is simple to set up and is regularly used by scammers.

Don’t call back phone numbers you don’t have a positive ID for. It’s a sure fire way to get scammed, or at least get bombarded with a st load more spam callers.

if i get a call from an unknown number - i answer the phone but remain silent, if it's a real person they will almost immediately say "hello?". I think the scammers use autodialers and if it doesn't hear anything when you answer it hangs up almost immediately.

I've so far had over 500 400 calls, and every one of them appears to come from a different number.

NB: I answered the first two only.

In my case I have a car for sale here on Pistonheads and I got a pay as you go sim for the advert. This person phoned in response to that advert.

I am fairly confident it's a scam.
