So, in the depths of the original lockdown I bought a Corsair K70 - great keyboard, but after nearly 3 years of daily use it is getting a bit on the dirty side. I've done a search on keyboard cleaning stuff and there look to be a lot of options - anything the wise heads on PH would recommend?

Vacuum first, then 'keyboard cleaning slime' - it gets right in between the keys and picks up any bits and dust. Then an anti-bac wipe on any stubborn gunk or marks on the keycaps.

Following extensive personal research, I can confirm that neither coffee nor red wine are effective keyboard cleaners.

Take batteries out/unplug.

Pull all the keys off.

Be disgusted at the hair and fluff wrapped around everything in sight.

Give it a damn good wiping.

Look up which key goes where.

Refit.

A damp microfiber cloth and a stiff brush + gravity has always worked for me.

Hover with the bristle attachment, give it a good going over to get rid of the crumbs and rubbish from between the keys. Stop and give it a good shake/ bang it on the desk a few times to move the crumbs into coverable positions.

Then I use a screen wipe of some kind the clean the actual keys.

I made the mistake of getting the white apple Magic Keyboard which turns brown every couple of weeks. 🤮

Cheers folks! Some good suggestions, and others involving a dishwasher. Will admit I was kind of hoping there was some sort of gadget on Amazon that would make it all easier, but looks like we're still on wipes and hoovers.

I have purchased some keyboard slime however - so will have a crack and report back.

Once cleansed, a regular squirt with a can of wind prevents build up of detritus.

The dishwasher idea isn’t perhaps as crazy as it sounds when explained properly.

Decent keyboards have the keys mounted in a frame as part of the top cover that can be easily removed from the base which contains the switches and electronics with a few screws.

Whilst I’ve never put one through the dishwasher, I’ve washed a few in the sink with hot soapy water.

I had some of that, bought it a few years ago.

Last time I tried to use it, it'd gone runny and stuck to my hand like a giant ball of snot.

hurl

It was during the hottest week of the year, not sure if that was the cause.

Now back to removing all the keys and soaking them while I brush/scrape/chisel the pubes and crumbs out.
