Hi,
I've just bought a Sony double din unit off my nephew, as he wasn't using it, and the stereo in the camper was all but dead.

I knew it had Apple Carplay on it, and really only hooked up to Apple devices, but wasn't too bothered, as only really wanted it for the radio, which is perfect, and to hook up a reversing camera.

However, just fitted it, and looked up the Carplay stuff, and it seems really good. Popped my S21 in, just to see, but of course, "unsupported device"

I just wondered if there was an adapter of any kind that you could get that would allow an Android phone to connect to the stereo at all?

Head unit in question is a Sony XAV-AX1000

Thanks

I usually get that when the cable is knackered or not good quality, check connections are clean on both head unit and.phone.

I just looked up the specs. That unit specifically doesn't have android support, so you're up the creek without a paddle, I'm afraid.

Ah, thanks for checking, i did a bit of googling, as there's usually an adapter for everything these days! but couldn't find anything that seemed simple.

Not to worry, looks better than the old, and actually picks up stations!

I think there is a whole market out there for theses kinds of boxes. They basically take a wired CarPlay or AA and expand it to wireless for both ( and more)

Google 'carplay ai box'

It would need some kind of firmware upgrade on the hardware - either from the OEM or a 3rd party.

Any "adaptor" would be an Android Auto (and probably carplay) device that somehow connected to the screen - it would probably cost the same (or more) than a brand new unit that supports Android Auto from the get go.

Buy a cheap second hand apple phone? What are you looking for maps, podcasts, music? You could keep a cheap phone with a cheap sim, in the car to provide those?
