UPS that can independently send an email or telegram message
Discussion
Came home tonight after a great week in Vienna and a 10 hour drive to find that a smart home blinds switch had shorted and killed the house power the day after we left.
And yes the freezer is a stinking mess.
I need a UPS just to keep the router running and send me a message that the power has gone. I can always get a friend to come in and switch everything on again.
I've looked at lots of specs but cannot find such a simple function. It seems that often they send a message to a NAS which then does the emailing/messaging.
I don't need a nas to run so are there any with this sort of function. For a router I probably only need 400/500 watts/
Thanks for any info, I really don't want to have to empty the freezer again!

I use a Google Mesh system and a Nest cam. Both have apps where you can see if they’ve gone offline so a check every 24 hours when you’re away would alert you that something is wrong and make you feel better about calling the neighbour to see if something’s wrong with your mains power. A cheap wifi cam would enable the same functionality without the need for a UPS if you don’t mind the routine check-in.

But you obviously need a ups to keep your modem and router up long enough for it to work. There seems to be quite a lot of products similar, most needing wifi to be up.
This might work better -

I've seen these used to monitor for power failures (and temperature out of limits) in some small server rooms, etc, including where I've worked.

Surprisingly effective and reliable, they are a very simple and cheap bit of monitoring kit!
They contain a battery and SIM card, and send a notification via SMS to an in-built list of mobiles as soon as the socket they are plugged in to fails or for temp alerts.
Completely self contained and the only prerequisite is that they can get a mobile signal and you or a SIM in it (maybe something like the cheap 1pMobile annual one?). No need for any network connections or cloud services.
You can also interrogate them remotely by sending them a specific text. Configuration is done via text message too.
(ETA jjj mentioned the same kit)

Great! Which model is it?
Any of the models with 'SmartConnect' will do the job. You don't need the dedicated network management card any more.I think the Smart-UPS range all have this now e.g. https://www.broadbandbuyer.com/products/34465-apc-... which would give you a fair amount of runtime for a router and any other small boxes you might have for other automations.
Just look for this feature - https://www.se.com/th/en/faqs/FA375380/
I find it very handy, even though I have the network management card as well, the SmartConnect is very quick easy and user friendly.

Thanks for the info guys. Just ordered this one. APC Smart-UPS SC - SC420I
I would put hold on it as I don't think that model has SmartConnect.... its listed as discontinued on APC website so probably pre-dates the function https://www.apc.com/uk/en/product/SC420I/apc-smart...Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
