Slight cock-up on my part, just changing from a TP-Link AC2800 router to a TP-Link AXE5400 router.

The 2800 very nicely has an RL11 port for me to connect the ADSL broadband line to, however the 5400 has an RJ45.

Is it possible just to obtain a convertor to connect the two?

Some internet searches suggest it is possible (even to just ram the RJ11 in - not doing that), however others seem to advise that is isn't.

Just looking for advise on if this is a viable route worth pursuing.

Thanks

Nope, you need an ADSL / VDSL modem for to take RJ11 from the phone socket, then RJ45 to the Deco. You'd be trying to plug an ADSL/VDSL signal into an Ethernet port as it stands.

It looks like there is a Deco which has an ADSL / VDSL modem built in:

Looks like that is just the base modem / router, so you'd need other Deco units to put round the house for the meshed WiFi coverage.

Or another option is to look for a Draytek Vigor 130 which is just a modem.

Thanks for taking the time to reply - I did wonder if I was barking up the stupid tree!

I'll take the easy option for now and dig out the original Plusnet router which I've never used and turn the Wi-Fi off on it, at least this (if I've got this right), should allow me to connect this to the new router with a standard network cable.

Mesh side of things is covered with an X55 AX3000 set (3 nodes), so 4 nodes with the router.

Not ideal as it means two devices plugged in instead of one but not the end of the world.

You want the router with the phone line connection to be in bridging mode. It’s usually a simple thing to turn on in the settings. Then connect the new one to it for doing the routing, switching and Wi-Fi.

Otherwise you have double NAT which can be a pain for certain things like port forwarding for games.

Change the socket to a BT 5C. The old one clips off and this one clips on without any tools.
