You Tube channel for a 12 year old?

My 12 year old son is badgering me to help him setup his own YouTube channel (loads of his mates have got one etc etc.....)
Having a quick look, it appears that he would need to use my Google account and I can monitor content and block comments. Which seems ok.
However, it appears I need to amend my Google account name as it will appear on his channel. This is now seeming like a big PITA.
Has anyone else got any experience of setting up a kids channel? Should I avoid it at all costs, or am I making a meal out of it?
