do I need passthrough for my soundbar?

my setup is as follows atm:

Nvidia Shield -> splitter -> TV

-> soundbar -> soundbarout -> projector



I am looking to change soundbar and it doesn't have a hdmi out on it, would it be okay to use another splitter and then put the signal straight to the projector?

Why not get a soundbar with HDMI out? Here's a good guide.........
