Iv'e had my trusty s20 for a few years now but it seems that it won't be getting any security or operating system updates after this year. Thinking about the s22 but the internet is telling me that it has battery drain issues. I guess you only hear about the complaints. Anyone had one for a while and able to give their opinion?

I have an S22 Ultra which is coming up on a couple of years old now. I charge it every day the same as all my phones so cannot comment on how long it actually lasts. If you are not in the habit of charging a phone every day it might become and issue (never tried)/ When it goes on a road trip it wirelessly charges in the car and when I go to bed I charge it again. It's down to personal circumstances IMO.

Thanks. That sounds pretty much like what I need to do with my s20.It's never actually ran out during the day. I use it mainly for internet, youtube, photos and calls. I wonder if some of the complaints are from high usage, games ,etc. It can't be that bad surely. It was their flagship phone until the s23 came out! I do banking on my phone so getting updates is important to me. If it wasn't for that I'd not be changing. The s20 has been the best phone I've had so far.

I had a S22 but had to get rid of it and change to an S22 ultra due to awful battery life.

The ordinary S22 was the first mobile phone I've owned where I was running out of battery in under a day. No problems when I had an iPhone 13 or a Samsung a53.

FYI you can pick up a S22 ultra on Amazon for £750 compared to £1100 that other places are still charging (which isn't much cheaper than the s23 ultra.)

Can you be a bit more specific. What do you mean by awful and was it getting heavy usage?

Iv got the s22. Battery was good for me. Its over a year now though and I can burn the battery down by 1pm on a quiet day at work. It never runs out but if I work to 3pm it can be touch and go. Won't ever last me until bed now without a top up sometime. I start at 5am though so hourage you can work out.

Once it consistently can't make 1pm is when I decide its time for a new phone. Think I should get 2 years out this one.

Not heavy use, mainly web browsing, apps and a bit of using strava for tracking runs.

Every other mobile phone I've owned lasted more than a day on a charge but the S22 wouldn't make it through to late afternoon without getting below 20%.

Phone was on the latest software, with optimised battery.

It was so bad, I had to even turn off the higher refresh screen option and also turn off 5G too.

Other phones run fine with these on in the same location running the same apps.

Okay. Thanks. That sounds pretty poor. Lots to chew over. Cheers

I dropped my s22u in the sea last week and it clearly wasn't waterproofed after a screen repair so waiting for an insurance replacement after it started doing weird stuff and got very hot as it was fizzing!

I bought an s23u and will trade in the s22u.

I found the s22u ok. Battery wasnt great but mostly got to early evening before if started to bleep at 15%. Battery tech really hasn't improved over the last 2 or 3 years. The battery was tiring now its a year + old,

S23U samsung is doing some decent deals on. £200 cashback, bud pro and a JBL speaker...

They've ditched the exynos chipset and now use qualcom which is apparently more battery friendly.

S23 is a big step up from S22 in battery life IME.
