I want to put an app on my kid's Chromebook so that he gets an alert and can view videos recorded from two CCTV cameras over night. We want to see what's visiting our garden at night.

I don't have the cameras yet, I think that's the easy bit, I have an UnRaid server which I can use to monitor for movement and to record video, I have no fixed idea on what software to run on this and it can be docker or VM.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the last bit, getting the video available on the Chromebook?

Thanks!

"my kid" = you?
"wildlife" = frisky neighbours?

Good lad!

An outdoor IP camera you should be able to view on an app on the chromebook depending on app compatibility.

You can certainly do what you seem to be looking for using Ezviz outdoor cameras and a chromebook if you get it set up correctly.

In the end I bought a pair of Reolink CCTV cameras a PoE switch and a Google Coral processor for my server so it can run Machine Learning models away from the CPU, installed Frigate in a Docker and hooked it up to Home Assistant, which is running notifications.

It took a couple of hours to figure out, but was pretty simple and I now have proper CCTV identifying stuff and recording movement to hard drive. I haven't configured the notifications and the access to clips on the Chromebook yet, but that looks like the easiest part.

I can't find my ethernet cable ends and my crimper though, so until that turns up I'm struggling to run the cables, I've looked everywhere!
