I have the original one and it has done me proud over the years.

This past month it's got me through all 6 seasons of The Americans, which I finished at the weekend.

Looking for new stuff to watch this week, it's taken an age for the Casting icon to appear on my phone and last night it wouldn't appear at all.

I've tried all the steps on Google Home help and even have tried a few factory resets.

It first got me almost to the end of the setup but then, at the last step, couldn't see the damn thing even though it was seen during the setup.

This morning it can't even get through the first stage of the setup even though you get the Google Chrome blue page on the TV along with its number.

Time to buy a new one or am I missing something?

Very frustrating as you need to use the Home App as well as a Device Utility App and to my mind, it's not intuitive at all.

Although I have successfully navigated all of this when using the Chromecast away from home in holiday cottages, hotels etc.

I guess it's 10 years old and stuff can go bad.

Cheers.

I don't know the answer to your specific problem but what I do know is that I have a 3rd generation chromecast sat here which you can have for free as I've never really found a use for it smile

What's the device utility app? We have Chromecast on most of our TVs and only use the Home app to set them up. Some of them are first generation so the same as yours.

Very kind eltawater, cheers, but I've already ordered another.

And yes, I used to only have to use the Home app with my 1st gen but about a year ago the Home App asked me to use the other app then come back. Right pain and has made what was seamless now a faff.

This was as a new device at a different house and as I found yesterday with a factory reset.

Android.

£24 and a new Chromecast with remote, wow! turned up last night.

Basically set itself up and has turned my faithful old Panny Plasma from 2011, into a Smart TV.

How things have moved on since my old, definitely not working 1st gen.
