One of my ex employees has returned their iPhone but has conveniently forgotten the Apple ID. It was a pay as you go phone, so does anyone know of a way to take it back to factory reset as a new phone, or is it for the bin?

As that model is no longer supported with OS updates, it has a very low value now.

it is possible with recovery mode but you need a PC/MAC to do it.

Even if they've "forgotten" the AppleID at a guess they've also "forgotten" the password meaning the handset will be locked to the ID and no manner of reset will remove this.

In some cases where proof of ownership can be provided Apple themselves have removed the iCloud lock but this is quite rare - we had about 15 devices at last count where this same scenario had happened and even with the handsets being bought direct from Apple they refused to unlock them.

We now have the requirement that all handsets are used with an AppleID that uses our work issued email addresses (for recovery if someone leaves/is fired) and are also managed with a DMP too to try and avoid this in the future.

Agree amazing that an a 7 year old phone is still up and running? The OS is no longer supported either so will not even be able to upgraded

Just sayin'.

is Find My disabled on it?

If yes, you can nuke. If no then you need them.

For an iPhone 6, I would not bother with too much effort.

Do you mean the passcode on power up? Or Apple ID?

Apple ID - Can you use the forgot password routine?

Passcode - Think you’re screwed without specialist hardware.

My workphone is an SE (same as 6s i believe) - runs on IOS 15.7

Still going strong, eats its battery if you open up Teams or Outlook but fine for what it is
