I have a huge amount of computer equipment. Some small and some big and wondering the best, most effective way to sell.

1) Are car boot sales even a thing now and if so would it be worth it?

2) eBay but then there's the hasle of posting and how to package it all up

3) Facebook marketplace - way too much hassle

4) Dedicated computer fairs but can't seem to find Any (not looked very hard yet)

Equipment I have:

Ton of cables - £1 each probably

Hard drives - around 30x 4tb drives, 30x 3tb and about 300 smaller than this

Computers - lower spec computers with network cards. Unsure exactly what level but about 6 of them I think. Can install windows and have it a fully functioning device

Networking equipment - one is a 24 bay nas worth several thousands. Couple of switches too.

...

Any thoughts? Has to be worth the time to sell it and relatively painless, especially the lower value stuff

Thanks

1) Yes, but they're very hit and miss. You'd want to find a big busy one to stand the best chance of clearing a lot out in one day. Plus it will likely mean dealing with many people looking to resell using option 2 or 3

2) If it's not something you already do it's hard work to get going from scratch, you'll lose about 30% of your selling prices to fees and costs. It's not as easy as it used to be sadly.

3) Price it keenly, sell in bundles and be quite harsh in dealing with the stupid and this can work.

4) Could be a winner if you find one.

My suggestion would be a mixture of 3, then 1. Or if you can't face either just find an auction house that runs general sales and give them it all to sell for you.

Personally I’d write off the cables.

Facebook marketplace for hard drives. The large hard drives will sell no bother. Id guess if you have a lot of them under maybe 1tb it will become more hassle than it’s worth and I’d write them off.

Computers, facebook - with windows install.

The really valuable stuff I’d do eBay and Facebook.

I used to have a business reselling all sorts of things and still do it as a hobby. I reckon you’d get as much from a Carboot as you’re likely to get from just the hard drives on Facebook - ignoring the network equipment.

Although, in my experience network equipment is low value on the secondary market because businesses generally buy new.

eBay probably the easiest, they do 80% off selling fees every other weekend.

Cables, sell them in lots, you won't get much.

Hard drives, easy to sell, easy to post. Sell the smaller ones in job lots. Make sure they are wiped and working.

PCs, you'll see what they are worth on eBay, if they're old spec, you won't get much. There are charities out there that take old PCs.

We have a computer recycling not for profit near us: for the stuff where it's marginal whether your time is worth the hassle of selling it you might consider just donating it.

I like a car boot sale, but the only way I'll buy anything electrical is if the seller can either demonstrate that it works, or if it's staggeringly cheap, so maybe not the place for anything other than the cheapest bits.

The OP will probably end up taking a lot of it home.
