Is anyone who has a 2021 iPhone (13 etc) upgrading to whatever they release later this year?

I accept it’s not really necessary to upgrade every 2 years these days. Particularly if you’re SIM only. However, my 13 Pro is down to 85% battery capacity, feels a bit worn out (Siri sometimes randomly not responding), and I fancy getting a bigger screen.

No, my iPhone 13 mini does me fine. Plan to keep it as long as possible given the lack of smaller options these days.

I’m considering changing my 11 to the new one in September, battery down to 71%, and I fancy the pro version for the camera. Least that’s what I’m telling myself anyway.

How did you get it down to 85% capacity? My phone has only lost 4% in that time

Different usage/charging pattern? Or perhaps he doesn't like peas and the phone is holding it against him.

My iPhone 12 Pro is down to 87% battery capacity, but it's never less than 30% full at the end of my day and usually above 50%. I just dump it on the magnetic charging pad when I go to bed. I have no plans to replace the phone until it dies. I bought it outright and have a SIM-only vodafone unlimited plan. Worked out about £1000 cheaper after 24 months than letting Vodafone provide the phone under a contract!

When the phone dies, I may look again at Android phones as I find them far better for everything except contactless payments where it's a faff with my bank on Android. Or at least it used to be.

I plan on replacing my iPhone 12 with a iPhone 15 pro max. I want a bigger screen, bigger battery and a phone that doesn’t scratch the sides so easily.

I’m on a 13PM and was thinking for the same cycle but tbh unless the 15PM is something very special (or a very attractive colour) I don’t think I will as there is nothing I’m lacking in my current model.

The battery in my PM has been the best I’ve ever had though - after the nightmare of the 12mini and its rapid degradation, this is 18mths old now and still on 97% health. Battery easily last 2 days of heavy use too. Impressive IMO.

iPhone X will be upgraded rather than a 2nd battery replacement, likely for a 15 Pro or maybe Ultra.

If I had a 13 down to 71% then I'd take an Apple battery replacement and punt it 2nd hand should I upgrade; I'd also nuke it and install new if it was buggy.....

On an 8 plus and its second battery still holding up fine. Phone works well too, camera isn’t the best but I can live with that. If I had a 13 I’d definitely replace the battery rather than get a new phone.

The only issue is the phone’s memory. 64gb really doesn’t cut it these days.

It comes down to whether the 8 will run ios17 due out this year. If not I’ll upgrade otherwise I might try to get another year out of it.

iPhones may be expensive but they do last…

I switched from an X to a 14 pro last year and I hadn’t realised how st the X had become. This one is excellent, saves me probably hours a week just in speed alone.

I have a 13 Pro (non Max). Battery capacity is 91%. But, I am a heavy user. If you're below 85% it's worth utilising the replacement service with Apple, it's not badly priced given it's a genuine battery. £80 or so from memory.

The only thing that's making me potentially look at the 15 Pro would be finally switching across to USB-C! The one cable dream finally in reach. My iPad from 2018 is USB-C, both my personal and work laptops are USB-C and have been for years. That leaves the phone.

13 Pro here. Normally I switch every 2 years but I’m not noticing any dazzling new features over the past few years and I don’t want a new phone if it’s pretty much the same as the 13 Pro.

I’ll get a battery replacement instead.

I'll wait and see how big the phones are - I like smaller phones and I know the mini isn't coming back back any time soon but if there's a variant that isn't too big I might go for it, will also have to wait and see if my friend who works at Apple can get a discount.
My 12mini battery is down to 89% so if I don't get a new phone I might put a new battery in it.

iPhone 13 Pro Max - 90% battery health

I won’t change mine for at least another cycle I’m yet to find someone say other than the floating island what is materially different in the 14 that the common person would benefit from.

So it’s a 16 or 17 - and let’s face it by that point it’s a £2k handset so I’d better get saving now!

Grumps.

I would wait for ios 17 before jumping to upgrade, as ios16 is a pile of st and has fked up many of my apps etc.

I’m happy with my 12 Pro but might change up. Not sure yet. I’m thinking going for a Max especially with higher refresh rate displays and hopefully USB C. I watch a lot of YouTube on my phone and the bigger screen might be nice for that.

I think people get too fixated on battery health. I’m down to 85% and get comfortably through a day of normal use. If I’m using it heavily it charges quickly from a power bank. Getting upset and using it as an excuse to get a new phone is pretty frivolous when you could just replace the battery.

Siri randomly not responding is going to take more than a phone update to resolve!

13 Pro Max 89% Battery, will get the battery changed at 80%

I wont be changing unless they have some new killer function that i would use (on the 13 it was macro photography which i use all the time)

The price of the new phones is just taking the pish, also upgrading phone is an utter ball ache with all the apps that need setting up and passwords that need rentering ...
