Microsoft Mail - "Try the new Outlook"

If you use Microsoft's Mail in Windows 11 or 10 (I think) a new toggle button has appeared top right saying "Try the new Outlook".
Advice is don't.
I'm confused: I've got Mail (I think it's Microsoft Mail) and that works as is - nothing suggesting it's going to change.Advice is don't.
I've got Outlook (from Microsoft 365) and that's got the toggle button.
If you need a desktop app and can’t rely on webmail I’d suggest giving eM Client a go. Free for 2 mail accounts.

This is like seeing a wet paint sign, now I want to try the New Outlook, even though I had no desire to try it previously.
It feels like a desktop interface for the Outlook.com website rather than a dedicated piece of software. Outlook has its own quirks and is dated in some respects. Try changing the theme for Outlook Today (for even Outlook 365 includes multiple themes), and none of them look to have been updated past Windows 2000 or very early XP. That said, the new Outlook still felt like a distinct downgrade.sunbeam alpine said:
Surely Thunderbird is the go-to mail client?
Windows Live Mail was also pretty good.
I've just had a look at a few comparisons between Thunderbird and Outlook and I honestly can't see the appeal? From what I can tell the only advantages are the chat features, but they are in lieu of Calendars and an iOS app... Windows Live Mail was also pretty good.
What am I missing?
Biggest issue for me with the new outlook version is that you can't seem to break out mail into it's own window.
I get a lot of email and how I like to work is to have that email open in a window until I have dealt with it then I can close the window. The nature of what I do is that I am very often dealing with multiple situations at once so have to jump from one thing to another. a few times before I can consider the matter closed.
Best email server/client ever was novel groupwise, it was a sad day for me when I had to retire that system and move to exchange and outlook, I've still not found an email client with a better search function than groupwise and it would scale to up to a 1tb individual mailbox out of the box. (it would be slow as heck but it would work!)

I tried it and tried to persevere with it for a day or two to get used to it before they switch off the old one, it was a big no from me.
Didn't seem intuitive at all, I couldn't even work out how to add an attachment for example.
Switched back to what I know. Approaching Victor Meldrew point in my life, so I just want things to stay familiar now.

I was wondering why I wasn't seeing this on my Outlook and I've found out now why; It's because it's not yet available for Office 365 (and specifically, the reason being that it does not support accounts that are IMAP/POP or anything else that's not connected to Exchange or an MS account).
