Hi

Hopefully this is a simple question..

I've got a MBP and an iPhone. I've just bought an iPad Pro and am in the process of setting it up. I had assumed that it ran different software to both devices (i.e. iPadOS vs iOS & macOS) so wasn't expecting to be asked if I wanted to restore it from a backup.

It looks like if I choose "Restore from iCloud Backup" it will use my iPhone's last backup as the basis for this. I have no idea what this will actually mean in practice - it'll download whatever iPadOS apps I have iOS versions of, with the data?

I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to use this device as yet - it was bought as a bit of a folly. It's more likely that I would use it for productivity, so more naturally like the MBP than I use my iPhone - which I will most likely still have on me anyway.

Using it fresh is appealing also because I'm a bit OCD like that.

Any recommendations on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

Setup as new device is what I always do, unless upgrading iPhone -> iPhone, where I’ll restore from a backup.

Cheers. I was quietly hoping that this would be the response.

I had a similar purchase recently and opted for the new device route. Much simpler.
